Let’s Build a Yurt!

We have been given the green light to rebuild the Yurt. This is great news for the team, but we have only a short window to do it before the weather turns, and we could use your help!

What is the Yurt? The Yurt is a 30′ wide circular permanent tent consisting of a wood frame and a canvas canopy, with power and heat. SBSEF had one in Gad Valley for several years before Covid. It was a place out of the elements for athletes to meet and watch videos with their coaches.

We’ve had the Yurt in storage, and now we are ready to bring it back out. We have the support of Snowbird to rebuild the Yurt just uphill from the BATC in Gad Valley. This season it will be particularly important because there won’t be a Mid Gad Lodge for a year, so indoor space will be very limited.

Who does this benefit? The whole team! It is a facility that all groups will use as needed and according to group training plans. This is a particularly big help for our weekend Devos and young athletes looking for a warm and familiar place, but it truly benefits all.

What are the guidelines? The Yurt is a nice amenity for SBSEF but does come with high expectations of conduct and use guidelines: i.e. We have to clean and maintain the yurt and adhere to guidelines, to keep it. The yurt is for athletes and their coaches during training only. This is not a place for families to store items or for athletes to use without their coaches. We will also share indoor rules and cleaning schedules for the team once it’s constructed.

What do we need to make this happen? Your help by way of your time or monetary donations. It will take us about a week to rebuild the yurt, and it will cost approximately $5,000 in materials (lumbar and hardware) and flooring. Will you join us by donating a small contribution of $50-$100? Or are you free and handy to donate a few hours to help with the building of the physical structure? And finally, do you have a flat-screen TV (or two) that can be used for video review in the yurt?

When will construction begin? We are hoping to begin on October 14th.
SBSEF FIS Coach Kevin Chaffee will oversee the project with staff and volunteers support. This will be right next to the BATC in Gad Valley. SIGN UP HERE. Bring gloves, tools, etc.
