Scott Martin - President
Scott has been a part of the Snowbird Ski Team in varying capacities nearly all his life. Scott was an athlete with the Team from age 7 up to college, then served as a coach through graduate school and beyond, then as a Board member, and now as a parent of three children who enjoyed the benefits of the Team. Scott's family has been a part of the Snowbird community since its opening in the early 1970s. Scott's father, Pepper, was the first Board chair. As such, the SBSEF mission and community has been a constant in Scott's life, and he looks forward to serving on the Board as a means to propel the organization successfully forward.
Scott is an attorney with the Salt Lake City office of Snow Christensen & Martineau. His practice focuses largely on water and real property issues, including watershed protection in Little Cottonwood Canyon.
Pascale Wiedenroth - Vice President
A native German, Pascale moved to Cottonwood Heights with her family initially "just for the ski season." Soon thereafter, her family enrolled for the entire school year to give their five children the opportunity to alpine ski race with Snowbird. Her husband, Erich, who grew up in New England, is also a ski racer and can be regularly found on the hill with his kids. Pascale's family enjoys the winters in Utah and loves the outdoors in the spring and fall. Pascale is looking forward to supporting SBSEF - an organization that has become so meaningful to her family.
Pascale graduated with an MBA-equivalent degree from Mannheim University in Germany and completed post-graduate coursework in journalism. Early in her career, she worked as a journalist in Germany for Focus Magazine, a weekly news publication, and thereafter held a role as Head of Press Department for Thyssen AG in Dusseldorf. After moving to the US with her husband in 1999, she worked in public relations with Thompson Financial. After her first children, she founded her own executive coaching and recruiting firm to work independently.
Ellen Tolstad - Secretary
Ellen learned to ski in the very chilly climate of Michigan’s upper peninsula. She started skiing at Snowbird in 1981 after moving to Salt Lake to attend the University of Utah, graduating with degrees in Math and Physics. She and her spouse Roy have shepherded their children Andrew, Audrey, and Grace through the SBSEF alpine race program. Two continued to race in college through USCSA, and all have inherited a love for skiing and outdoor activities.
Professionally, Ellen has worked as a software developer and enjoys camping, hiking, making cosplay costumes, road and mountain biking. She enjoys giving back to this wonderful organization through service on the board.
Ben Johnson - Treasurer
Born and raised in the Wasatch, Ben has spent most of his skiing life in Little Cottonwood Canyon besides a twelve-year stint in Jackson, WY, where he owned and operated his family business. His wife (Sarajane) and three children now make SLC home, where they all can be found spending their winter days at Alta and Snowbird. His oldest daughter (Madeline) is part of the SBSEF Freeride Team and Ben thrives from his daughter's participation in freeride as it’s what he wished he had available as a young skier.
Ben graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a BS degree in Business Administration, an individual collegiate national championship in swimming, and is now VP of Sales at HotWax Systems, a global open-source software firm headquartered in SLC.
