Skimo Team


The Skimo Team provides an opportunity for athletes to learn and practice the required skills for efficient backcountry skiing, Skimo racing, and training to improve fitness. Training will be conducted in designated uphill access areas at The Utah Olympic Park, Solitude and Brighton. Athletes will have the opportunity to participate in local Skimo races.
Athlete Age: 12-18 (11 possibly okay with coach approval)
Skill Requirements:
- Comfortable skiing ungroomed black terrain in variable conditions
- Should enjoy endurance sports
- Previous backcountry/Skimo racing experience is not required, just a desire to learn and have fun
Training Sessions Include:
- Learning/practicing efficient uphill and downhill skiing techniques
- Learning/practicing transitions between uphill skiing, downhill skiing, and boot packing
- Sport-specific workouts to build fitness for skiing and racing
Required Equipment:
- Lightweight backcountry touring skis with tech bindings
- Lightweight backcountry touring boots
- 1-2 sets of climbing skins
- Adjustable backcountry poles or nordic poles
- Skimo race pack
- Ski mountaineering helmet
- Headlamp
Program Includes:
- 1-2 evening training sessions each week, December-March
- Mostly Thursdays at the UOP
- Six Tuesdays at event resorts
- Coach support at Utah Skimo Citizens Series Races

- Tuition: $600
- Utah Skimo Membership
