2026-27 Freeride U19 Team

The U19 Freeride Team is our most elite program, designed for high-level athletes who have the desire, motivation, work ethic, and discipline to be successful in Freeride competition. Training is designed around the refinement of technical fundamentals along with the essential skills to maximize performance in competition. U19 athletes are expected to maintain regular training attendance and participate in all extracurricular training, including dryland training, strength and conditioning, mental skills training, and avalanche awareness education, in addition to on-snow training. On-snow training will include a variety of components designed to help athletes reach their full potential, including drills focused on refining technical skills, gate training, structured competition training, and focused freeskiing. This is our highest-level competition team, and all athletes are required to participate in at least 3 IFSA competitions. 

Training will include coaching in the following areas:

  • Refinement of fundamental technical skiing fundamentals
  • Sport-specific strength and conditioning 
  • Mental performance and mental skills training
  • Decision-making and risk management
  • Freeride competition strategy
  • Refinement of jumping skills and high-level freestyle maneuvers
  • Setting and achieving personal and competitive goals 
  • Avalanche awareness and education

Athlete Age: 15-18 (2011, 2010, 2009, 2008 birth years)

Athlete Experience: Athletes must be able to ski all types of terrain in all snow conditions proficiently. 

Athletes new to the program must participate in a tryout day in April to qualify to participate in the lottery for open spots. SBSEF holds the right to deny program access based on skill level.

Competition and Events: 3-4 IFSA Freeride competitions

Program includes:

  • On-snow training 2 or 4 days/week
  • Dryland training from early September to early November
  • Strength and conditioning, July to March
  • Holiday Camp

Tryouts for the 2025-26 team will be on Saturday, April 19, and April 26, 2025. Sign-ups for tryouts will be sent to everyone on the waitlist.
