Happy Summer SBSEF,

The long days of summer are sweet.  I think about how great it would be if we had this much daylight in the winter, and what we could do with all that extra time.  Six hours of daylight after school!?  In the meantime, I hope everyone lets the sun recharge winter batteries while burning ATP on other sports and activities.  The best athletes are happy and well-rounded.

Our registration for the 2025-26 season is complete, and once again, we have a full team.  Welcome back to our many returning athletes, and welcome aboard to our new teammates!  The new TeamSnap groups are being established, and you can expect to start seeing communication in your specific group through that app, which is the primary means for daily communication and scheduling.  The Program Directors and Head Coaches are sharpening their pencils on plans for the coming season… as quickly as one season ends, another begins.

We have Alpine and Snowboard groups currently training at Mt. Hood this week.  The Alpine FIS & U16 Team has also begun conditioning here on the home front. Freeride U19s will start in July.

Construction continues at Snowbird this summer with a focus on finishing the new restaurant and more snowmaking improvements.  All of these developments bode well for SBSEF programs and training venues.

It is always exciting to begin a new season; the anticipation builds from here.

Dream Big.  Work Hard.

Freeride Update

As team registration wraps up this week, we are busy planning for a productive winter season and gearing up for summer training. I thoroughly enjoy this time of year. It’s always fun to explore different areas of our backyard while recharging and preparing for the season on foot or wheels.

Now is the time that athletes should be focusing on building a strong aerobic base that will lay the foundation for more focused dryland training throughout the summer and fall. Hiking, mountain biking, or trail running several times each week are all great ways to begin building an aerobic base. It’s never too early to start preparing for the season. What each athlete chooses to do throughout the summer and fall can have a dramatic impact on performance and risk of injury during the winter season.

We have several weekend team hikes planned throughout the summer and fall for both the U12/U15 and U19 groups. Check TeamSnap for the schedule for each group. Team hikes are open to all registered athletes, and parents are welcome to participate.

Strength and conditioning for U19 athletes will begin the second week of July. For athletes who have scheduling conflicts or live a significant distance from the gym, we will have a basic workout plan available that can be completed at a home gym or fitness center.

Our summer Woodward program begins on July 9th and continues through August 27th. Summer Woodward training will focus on developing balance and stance on online skates, as well as body awareness and control on trampolines.

Happy summer!
