Greetings SBSEF,
Excitement is building for the 2022-23 season. We have a significant change in weather coming in the next few days and even snow in the forecast.  It’s happening…

Amazingly, the first World Cup race of the season is this weekend in Soelden, Austria.  On the homefront, staff has been working hard to dial in plans for a great season.  SBSEF Alpine, Freeride, and Snowboard athletes are preparing their bodies, minds, and equipment for the season.  We have athletes continuing with dryland conditioning and more set to make the trip to Colorado for training camps.  Head FIS Coach Brennan Rubie is traveling to Copper with the Men’s D Team this weekend as a coach & Townsend Mikell will be participating in a parallel NDG Camp, great exposure for both, and for SBSEF.

Once again this year we will have SBSEF athletes, alumni, and staff competing at the highest levels of the sport.  Jared Goldberg and Bella Wright are staples on the World Cup speed circuit.  Owen Carlson has been invited to compete in Freeride Junior World Championships for the second year in a row, while coach Andrew Pollard will compete once again on the Freeride World Tour.  Brenna Huckabee Clegg, Brittani Coury, and Tyler Burdick will again compete in the World Cup of Para Snowboarding.  And of course, we have 300 athletes competing at the local, regional, and national stages at all levels.

Great things are done by a series of small things brought together. – Van Gogh

In recent weeks we had a nice team BBQ, team meetings for all groups, and a successful swap, and on October 29th we will have our Gala, sponsored by KÜHL, in the Cliff Lodge at Snowbird.  It has been 2 years since we were last able to get together to celebrate and raise money together in the form of an in-person Gala.  The chance to get together for a great cause, and in great company, is something I very much look forward to, hope to see you there!

Work Hard! Dream Big!

Best,

Bridger Call
Executive Director SBSEF

Alpine Update:

Between Universal Swell, D1 Training, and the Churchill soccer field, fall conditioning has been a success. Gains in strength and agility have been made by all that have been attending. Remember, if your athlete is transitioning from fall sports, they are welcome to join us as soon as tey are done with their competition season. SBSEF will be hosting a SkillsQuest fitness test on November 3rd @ 5:00 PM. If you would like to see where your fitness is compared to other SBSEF athletes please sign up HERE. Fall conditioning will conclude as groups move from the field to the snow.

Freeride Update:

AltaBird Freeride prequalified 20 athletes into the IFSA Junior National Series this season.  Getting prequalified saves an athlete some registration hassles and gives that athlete first choice on their national events on their quest to get invited to IFSA NORAMs at the end of the season.  A big congrats to the following athletes: Lucas Baldwin, Thomas McKean, Boone Wheeler, Sasha Bills, Lucy Collins, Maddie Johnson, Diego Bradley, Owen Carlson, AJ McCleary, Ian Miller, Easton Moon, Max Morris, Ethan Newton, Jack Reynolds, Brock Russell, Obie Simper, Karl Verhaaren, and Michael Wheatley.  To top it off, Owen Carlson followed up on last year’s invite to the Freeride Junior World Championships with another invite to this season’s event, scheduled in Kappl, Austria January 23-26, 2023.  It takes a lot of hard work and consistency to earn a coveted invite to the FJWC and we are so proud to have a standout athlete and teammate like Owen Carlson representing SBSEF and AltaBird Freeride, the LCC, Utah, and the USA against the world’s best junior freeriders!
