Greetings SBSEF,

It is mid-March and we are now in the final month of our competition season, which means that many Championship events are going on.  Everything from YSL finals to World Cup Finals is happening in a 2-3 week window right now on the race side.

The last of the IFSA qualifying series for Junior Nationals are also taking place for our Big Mountain Team.

Lots of amazing results to celebrate across the many groups within SBSEF!

We also still have several fun team events on the calendar here at Snowbird.  The Good Vibes Freeride Comp, 86th Annual Snow Cup, gear testing and Team duals/BBQ all to come.  Meanwhile, the snow keeps coming and the mountain is skiing great right now!

Here is a little trivia for you… The Snow Cup, which is the final Intermountain Cup each year, has been at Snowbird for decades, but before that it was at Alta.  The Snow Cup is (I’m pretty sure) the 2nd longest-running annual race in the US, trailing only the Loveland Derby.  It began in 1940, making this the 86th year.  It has been missed only a few times, however, two are recent:

  • 1942 – No Race – WW2
  • 1943 – No Race – WW2
  • 1960 – No Race – lack of snow (I think)
  • 1970 – No Race – lack of snow
  • 2020 – No Race – Covid
  • 2023 – No Race – Snowmaggedon (couldn’t get up the canyon for days)

This time of year is the culmination of a lot of hard work, “The hay is in the barn.”  Good luck to all of our athletes in the home stretch!

Check out the info below for spring and summer training plans as well.

Work Hard.  Dream Big.

Best.
