Here is a little trivia for you… The Snow Cup, which is the final Intermountain Cup each year, has been at Snowbird for decades, but before that it was at Alta. The Snow Cup is (I’m pretty sure) the 2nd longest-running annual race in the US, trailing only the Loveland Derby. It began in 1940, making this the 86th year. It has been missed only a few times, however, two are recent:
- 1942 – No Race – WW2
- 1943 – No Race – WW2
- 1960 – No Race – lack of snow (I think)
- 1970 – No Race – lack of snow
- 2020 – No Race – Covid
- 2023 – No Race – Snowmaggedon (couldn’t get up the canyon for days)
This time of year is the culmination of a lot of hard work, “The hay is in the barn.” Good luck to all of our athletes in the home stretch!
