SkillsQuest Fitness Test Results

The SBSEF Alpine and Freeride teams came together on November 7th to complete the US Ski and Snowboard SkillsQuest Fitness test. The physical demands of skiing require amazing strength, power, agility, endurance, and balance. An athlete’s fitness level will directly contribute to on-hill success as it facilitates an athlete’s ability to tolerate high volumes of skiing as well as injury prevention. Congratulations to all athletes as this is an extremely taxing assessment and Snowbird athletes excelled.

Individual athlete performance reports will be sent out soon. Below are the updated record boards for the team.

Even though it doesn’t feel like it, we are weeks away from the beginning of on-snow training. Both U15 and U19 groups are scheduled to begin training the weekend of November 29th/30th (conditions permitting). Do those snow dances, and we hope to see everyone on the snow in a few short weeks.

Throughout the summer and fall, we have put a strong focus on strength and conditioning for both the U15 and U19 groups. Attendance for the U15 hikes, mountain bike rides, strength training, and field workouts has been strong, and U19 strength training attendance has been slowly growing. 17 Freeeide athletes participated in the Skills Quest fitness testing on November 7th, with many strong performances in both age groups. We are confident that the athletes who have attended fall conditioning will be going into the season prepared to train and perform at their best.

The U15 group will be taking a break from dryland for the second half of the month. U15 strength training will resume for the winter on Thursday afternoons at the SBSEF gym beginning in December. The focus will be on maintaining the movement patterns and strength that we have built throughout the fall, in addition to continuing to improve core strength and mobility.

U19 dryland will continue on Tuesdays and Fridays through the remainder of the month. Once on snow training begins U19 strength training will continue for the winter on Thursday evenings. With on-snow training, the intensity of strength training will be lower with a focus on maintenance, core strengthening, and mobility training.
