Freeride training is well underway and the athletes and coaches have been making the best of the low snow conditions and limited terrain. The silver lining to a slow start to the season is that conditions have been perfect for working on technique and technical skills, which will help set our athletes up for success both later this winter and for years to come.

The Freeride team has a full schedule during holiday camp this year with many extra learning opportunities planned including sports psychology sessions, tuning clinics, a Know Before You Go presentation for the U15 group, an avalanche safety session taught by the Alta Ski Patrol for the U19 group, an American Avalanche Institute level 1 course for U15 and U19 athletes, and several technical skill race hill sessions in addition to a lot of skiing and training.

Freeride Athlete Spotlight:

Lucas Baldwin

Known by all for his stylish backflips, Lucas has one of the best attitudes on the team and is always excited for skiing and training. He has been one of our most consistent athletes in his training participation for the past several years. This season he was one of the few U19 athletes that regularly attended strength and conditioning during the summer and fall and has continued to attend gym workouts now that ski season has begun. His hard work at dryland resulted in an excellent performance at the SkillsQuest fitness test in early November. We know that his consistent effort, focus, and participation both on-snow and in the gym will result in a great season.
