Davin Grapentine
Freeride Director
Davin grew up skiing Mont Du Lac in Northwestern Wisconsin with one chairlift, one rope tow, and a whopping 300’ of vertical. He loved skiing from a young age even though he was only able to ski recreationally a few times a year. In 2000 he moved to Oregon to spend more time on skis. From 2000-2006 he was a ski/snowboard instructor and children's ski school supervisor at Timberline Ski Area on Mount Hood. In 2007 he moved to Utah to experience the snow and terrain of Little Cottonwood Canyon Canyon. He initially worked as a ski instructor at Alta and was one of the original coaches for Alta’s former Freeride Team, the Alta Freeride Division. In 2012 he began coaching for the Snowbird Sports Education Foundation. He is a PSIA level 3 certified ski instructor, level 200 US Ski & Snowboard certified coach, and level 200 IFSA certified coach.
In addition to his experience in ski coaching and instruction, Davin has over 15 years of leadership experience in designing, implementing, and managing outdoor educational programs for youth. During the summer months since 2008, he has been the Associate Director at Tomahawk Scout Camp, a 3,000-acre property that provides outdoor summer camp experiences for over 4,000 youth each summer.
Besides skiing Davin has a broad range of experience in many other sports. He competed in slopestyle and freeride for several years before discovering and transitioning to endurance sports. He currently competes at the national level in mountain running and ski mountaineering. He also enjoys many other outdoor activities including backcountry skiing, nordic skiing, mountain biking, climbing, sailing, water skiing, canoeing, and recently learned to play acoustic guitar. He has completed multiple lengthy outdoor adventures including several bicycle touring trips and a canoe trip down the Mississippi River from the headwaters at Lake Itasca in Northern Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico. Davin and his wife Gina have many shared interests and try to spend as much time adventuring in the outdoors as possible.
