Like many of you, I am preparing my son for his first day of school, starting this week. Every summer seems to go quickly, but this one seemed like it flew by. It seems like yesterday, I was eagerly awaiting the freedom that summer brings; long days, no schedule to fill up our days, and lots of time out of ski boots. Now after three months, I’m looking forward to getting back into the routine and frankly, a little reprieve from the summer heat, albeit I can’t say I’m ready to put ski boots on yet.

Undoubtedly in the next few weeks, you will be dialing in school and fall athletic schedules. Many of you have a full schedule with soccer, lacrosse, and mountain biking, but hopefully, you plan on getting some time in with your prospective alpine groups as well. There is a direct correlation between physical fitness and success on the hill. Without a doubt, athletes who are active in another sport will come into this early winter fit, but there is an added component when athletes get to focus on ski-specific training and developing ski-specific movements that lead to success on the hill and strengthen specific muscle groups that prevent injury. For those of you who have a clear fall, we look forward to seeing you at dryland. For those of you who have another competitive focus, we look forward to seeing you when your sports don’t overlap.

By now, all SBSEF Alpine teams should have a pretty detailed fall schedule out and up on TeamSnap as well as expectations for fall participation for each age group. If you don’t know your athlete’s dryland schedule please make sure to double-check on TeamSnap.
