Greetings SBSEF,

Every September team activity really ramps up.  Students are back in school, dryland training is well underway, and we have many events and activities coming up.

It has been great to see our athletes taking advantage of our newly built team conditioning facility here at HQ.  We talk a great deal about the nearly direct correlation between conditioning and performance in competitive skiing and snowboarding, as well as injury prevention, it’s gratifying to see the athletes heed the call!

I am happy to announce that Davin Grapentine has moved from the role of Development Director to Program Director within the Freeride Program.  The path forward is very clear with Davin at the helm.  During the off-season, we have been discussing the strategic plan and goals for the Freeride Program with input from staff and team members, and are in alignment with the objectives and vision for the program.  This transition has been very smooth, Davin’s passion and energy are evident, and the future for the Freeride Program is bright.

Construction on the new Wilbere lift, snowmaking and the restaurant in Gad Valley continues, and the anticipation of our expanded race and training venue grows.  I am grateful to have the strong support of Snowbird for giving us a world-class mountain and for investing in the future of our athletes.  It is more than a little exciting to imagine our new race venue!

In step with our 5-year Strategic Plan, SBSEF has established an endowment fund.  The fund is intended to support SBSEF programming and scholarships in perpetuity for the organization.  The goal is to grow the fund through donations and gifts, as well as any budget surplus to grow the fund over time and increase the annual subsidy.

We are currently working with team sponsors for the 2024-25 season.  There is still time to get involved, please contact Amanda or myself for additional information.

Next up for the SBSEF community is the ski & gear Swap at Churchill Sept. 20-21.

Make sure to get your tickets to the SBSEF Gala as well.  One of the most fun evenings of the year!

Dream Big.  Work Hard.

Fall Camps

The U16, U14, and JFAST team will be headed to Aspen Highlands for our fall camp right before Thanksgiving. For athletes competing in December this is a crucial block for athletes to get in and prepped. Aspen Highlands has historically been an awesome venue for athletes to get some really excellent technical freeskiing and gate training before the season starts. See the Alpine Update for dates.
