Kelly Brush Ride

SBSEF is hosting a Kelly Brush ride on October 26th at Antelope Island State Park. We will meet at 10 am at the parking lot at the east end of the causeway. The ride will be an out-and-back across the causeway to the Fielding Garr Ranch. The total distance is 36 miles, and participants are welcome to turn around earlier for a shorter ride. The Kelly Brush Foundation supports SBSEF through grants, and donating/participating in the ride is a great way to say thanks and give back. Click HERE to donate and register for the ride.

Skills Quest Fitness Testing

Our club’s annual Skills Quest fitness testing is scheduled for November 7th at Churchill Jr High. Physical fitness is an essential component for ski and snowboard athletes, and fitness testing can help identify potential deficits as well as track long-term fitness trends. Participation is highly encouraged for all Freeride athletes.

Injury Prevention Screening

We have partnered with Dynamic Physical Therapy in Cottonwood Heights to offer an injury prevention screening. The screening is scheduled for October 23rd from 6-8 pm at the Dynamic Physical Therapy clinic. The screening will include testing hamstring and quadriceps strength, as well as assessing jump/landing force and mechanics. The screening cost is $40 and is open to all U19 athletes as well as any family members age 15+. To sign up, call Dynamic Physical Therapy at 801-849-0198 and ask to sign up for the Snowbird Ski Clinic.

U15 Update

The U15 team has been busy with many diverse fall dryland activities, including mountain bike rides, hikes, and strength training. Many athletes have also participated in bigger weekend hikes, the latest being a hike to the Pfiefferhorn. The group completed the 10-mile/3700’ vertical hike in 5 hours and 15 minutes, which was a new team record. Another fun training exercise included a 60-minute stair climb challenge on the 120-meter jump at the UOP. We had two athletes complete an impressive 5 laps!

U19 Update

The U19 athletes attending weight training at the team gym have shown tremendous progress in their strength and conditioning. Our rigorous 1.5 hour sessions continue to challenge and motivate the group as we prepare for the upcoming season.

Dryland training has included a variety of activities designed to build athleticism and team spirit, basketball games, hill bear crawls, slacklining, sprints, and a focused hour of yoga flow that pushes balance, physical resistance, and mental strength. We’ve also enjoyed some beautiful fall hikes, including a recent trek up Mt. Raymond, surrounded by vibrant colors and perfect temperatures.

The team is looking forward to many more sessions that will test our limits and ensure we’re as prepared as possible when the snow starts to fall!
