Bryce Astle Pursuit of Excellence Award

Bryce Astle (1995–2015) was a promising American alpine ski racer from Sandy, Utah, who was considered a rising talent for the U.S. Ski Team. He was a member of the Snowbird ski team and was known for his "send it" attitude, dedication, infectious smile, and aspirations of racing in the Olympics.  He posted top-10 NorAm Cup results in Canada and was selected to train with the U.S. Development Team, aiming for the World Cup circuit.

On January 5, 2015, at age 19, Astle was killed in an avalanche in Sölden, Austria, while freeskiing with other U.S. Development Team members on a day off from training. His death, along with teammate Ronnie Berlack, shook the ski community.

SBSEF has named it’s primary race and training venue after Bryce “Bryce’s Run”.  The SBSEF training center at Snowbird also bears his name; The Bryce Astle Training Center”.

The Bryce Astle Pursuit of Excellence Award was established to honor Bryce's legacy by supporting an SBSEF alpine team member each year—someone who embodies Bryce's good energy, hard work, focus, and commitment to excellence. This award is one of the many ways Bryce's spirit lives on.
