Welcome back to SBSEF! All our alpine groups are officially in full swing, and we’re all laser-focused on one thing: getting strong and ready for the upcoming competition season.

This fall’s strength and conditioning program has a few key goals:

  • Injury Prevention: We’re working on flexibility and stamina to help minimize the risk of injury.
  • On-Hill Success: We’re building functional mobility and strength that will translate directly to success on the slopes.
  • Team Spirit: We’re focused on building a positive team culture before the season officially begins.

If you haven’t been able to make it to dryland yet, you’re welcome to join us anytime! Schedules and times are different for each age group, so be sure to check your group’s TeamSnap for all the specific details.

Equipment – Team fit day at Sportsden last weekend was a success. Athletes should now be well-equipped for the season. For those still in need of gear, the SBSEF Ski Swap this Friday and Saturday offers a prime opportunity. Athletes are highly encouraged to attend the early entrance to get a first look at the available equipment.

A key point to note is the significant delays and limited stock for new equipment being shipped from Europe. With customs taking an exceptionally long time, anyone planning to order new gear should do so as soon as possible to ensure timely arrival.

SBSEF Dryland Camp (Oct 10-12). This is an annual event and always a great opportunity to go on some amazing hikes and connect with the SBSEF Community. This year we will be heading north to City of Rocks. Space is limited to 50 people total. Make sure to register early. Details and registration can be found here

Learn the Basics of Ski Tuning

Update from our Performance Director, Ali Spencer:

We have experienced an excellent summer of dryland training, and it has been gratifying to observe the consistent participants demonstrate increased strength and agility. A crucial element in our sport is the capacity to access our strength reserves. “Strength reserve” is a concept within exercise science and rehabilitation that delineates the disparity between an individual’s maximal force or strength production (their maximal capacity) and the amount required for daily activities (their functional requirement). By augmenting our strength reserve, we enable ourselves to mitigate challenges during training and competition, and simultaneously safeguard against injury by ensuring our bodies possess sufficient strength to navigate demanding circumstances.

Looking ahead, we have dedicated substantial effort to collaborate with various resorts to identify the optimal location for our November camp. This endeavor aims to secure the best opportunities for our athletes to gain early-season on-snow experience, alongside opportunities for free-skiing, dedicated training areas, and time in venues pertinent to upcoming races.

Departure: November 16th

A-Basin Freeskiing November 17,18

Aspen Training: November 19-25
