Labor Day signifies the end of summer, the beginning of a new school year, and soon another ski season! Amazingly, we are entering a 3rd consecutive season that will have been impacted in some way by the pandemic, however, we do have the advantage of knowing this year that it can be done, and we are confident that we will get in a full season on snow and competitions for all. This email is packed with info, so I will be brief… welcome back SBSEF veterans, and welcome aboard new members! It is with great anticipation we look forward to seeing everyone soon. As always my phone and email are available to everyone, it is the Team that makes the Dream a reality. Thank you to all who support SBSEF!
Dream Big. Work Hard.
-- Bridger Call
SBSEF Executive Director
From the Board of Directors:
Welcome to all the athletes and families!! We hope everyone had a fun and active summer and are gearing up for a successful, safe winter at the 'Bird. We already have full rosters and the coaches are raring to go. We appreciate all your support and enthusiasm for the SBSEF programs. It’s all about the athletes for us!
We look forward to getting back to “normal” operations this winter but will continue to be vigilant with the Covid-based challenges in front of us. We want you to know the Board has been working closely with Bridger, team staff, and Snowbird to ensure a safe and productive approach to the coming season. We cannot wait to watch the athletes develop, compete, and thrive!
We encourage your involvement at every level and opportunity. Parents are integral to the team and the athletes’ success. To that end, please share your ideas, thoughts, and comments with the board members as the season progresses. The board members are Scott Bates, Ellen Tolstad, Carolyn Ancetil, Pascale Wiedenroth, Matt Wigdahl, Jimmy Chen, Joe Sepulveda, Brian Ware, Andy Yorkin, Erika Creech, Jeff Mikell, Scott Martin, Kelli Fratto Bland, Adam Comey, Hunter Moseley, Dasha Kadulova and Ben Johnson.
See you on the hill, and pray for snow!

Welcome Fall BBQ set for September 9th
Please come (if you feel it is safe for you) to gather outside at the Sugar Beet Pavilion at Sugarhouse park anytime after 5:30 PM on September 9, 2021. We will host an “internal swap” with skis, boots, helmets, speed suits, and team jackets for sale. Dinner will be freshly barbequed burgers, cooked carefully by our board members, and we will have individual chip bags for you to enjoy safely. Please bring your own water/beverages. There is a playground to the East of the pavilion for our younger athletes and siblings to play at, and coaches will be available to meet, greet, and answer questions. If you are new to SBSEF, we invite you to come to meet our returning SBSEF families and ask questions about the team, a typical day, etc!
See you there! Please update availability in TeamSnap, and in the comments add how many people will be attending in your family. Thanks!
Gear Night at the Sports Den September 10th
The Sports Den is proud to host our annual Gear Night on September 10th. Ski reps will be on hand to help athletes explore the correct ski lengths, boot sizes, and helmets for their upcoming season. Head coaches will also be available to help answer questions. Please come if you can to see the new skis, helmets, boots and other gear available to athletes at a discounted price.
Time: 3:00 - 7:00 PM. If you cannot make it to Gear Night, you can stop in anytime to the Sports Den to receive help ordering equipment, but the sooner you order, the better chances of delivery before the snow flies!
Well, after last season we are used to changes, right? Our GEAR SALE at Snowbird in the Cliff Terrace Tent is now October 1-3, and our traditional SKI AND SNOWBOARD SWAP AND GEAR SALE at Churchill Jr High (new location) will be October 15-17. More details will be coming out soon, and volunteer opportunities will be available soon as well. We will be contacting parents via TeamSnap when the volunteer sign-ups are open, so watch for alerts!
Have gear to sell now? Bring it to the Team BBQ on September 9th and size it up to a new owner! You can also post the used gear on our Facebook Swap group, which has been working great to re-home great used equipment, join today!
US Ski and Snowboard Memberships - Alpine Competitors
Now is the time to renew your US Ski and Snowboard Competitor’s license. This is for: Jfast, U14 IMD, U16 IMC, FIS, Devo Transition Team and Masters athletes. Late fees apply after October 10.
IFSA Memberships - Freeride Athletes
Now is the time to renew your IFSA memberships. New to freeride? The site isn’t ready for new memberships yet, but it will be soon, and we will update you when this is set for you!
Alpine Devo and Freeride athletes no longer need US Ski and Snowboard memberships to participate in team events, thanks to a change in insurance policies. Please ask if you have questions.
Churchill/Skyline Shuttle Update:
We are getting ready to turn on the registration for the shuttle sign-up. The affordability of the shuttle is dependent upon participation. The goal is 10 athletes, and the limit is 14 athletes per shuttle day.
- Pick up at Churchill: 1:00 M, W, Th, and 12:45 on Friday
- Pick up at Skyline: 12:45 M, W, Th, and 1:00 on Friday
The cost, if we get 10 kids per day, is $200 for the season per day you sign up for. If we have less than 10 kids, we will have to bill families more to cover the cost. If we get MORE than 10, we can provide a bit of a refund.
Masks will be worn at all times in the shuttle. We will be using Canyon Transportation. The shuttle will be from school to Snowbird (Alta if necessary after stopping at SB) only. After training, athletes can use UTA to get down the canyon and be picked up at a bus stop of their choice, or parents can come up to pick up athletes. The price will double if we include a shuttle down, which makes this not affordable for most.
If you are interested in the shuttle, please email the team at email@example.com if you haven’t already. We will let everyone know via TeamSnap when the shuttle sign-up is live. Priority will be given to athletes who attend Churchill and Skyline, however, if there are seats available, we will gladly fill them with additional athletes from other schools; you will be responsible for getting yourself/gear to Skyline or Churchill for the shuttle on time.
School Schedule Updates:
Parents, if your athlete is participating in weekday training, now is the best time to meet with school counselors to arrange your athlete’s schedule for 2nd and 3rd quarters (or 2nd Trimester at Brighton). Arrange electives for these time slots, early release, etc…
Everyone should be on TeamSnap, please be sure you have accepted the emails to join your team. Everyone is required to update their availability for each training session at least 24 hours in advance. Please be sure you know how to do this, CLICK HERE to watch a short YouTube video with instructions!
TeamSnap Chat: Chat is a great feature, a way to get a message out to a lot of parents at once. Please be mindful of using the Chat feature during school and work hours, as many athletes also have TeamSnap on their phones, the Chat will “ding” their phones and could be distracting/disruptive. If you are running late for training, just chat/message your athlete's coach, not the entire group.TeamSnap is a very valuable tool, and we don’t want families to silence this app because of overuse/misuse. Thanks!
It is part of the SBSEF mission to foster and enable the participation of athletes from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. SBSEF understands the financial burdens associated with its programs and strives to provide need-based financial assistance as available. Families who feel they need financial assistance are encouraged to apply for SBSEF financial assistance as well for other support or scholarships potentially available from outside sources. We are excited to announce that we have received a Ski Racing Safety Grant from the Kellly Brush Foundation. New B-nets are on order to add to our stock and replace some older nets that are no longer safe.
Be sure to make monthly payments towards your tuition balance. All tuition balances are due in full on November 1, 2021.

New SBSEF Offices Coming Soon!
We are going to have a new office, with meeting rooms and vehicle storage starting September 8th! This will be a fantastic place to meet up with coaches for goal setting, pick up jackets, and drop off payments or paperwork when needed.
Do you have any spare office furniture to donate? Let Bridger know!
We do have some new team jackets on order from Karbon. You can pre-purchase these on the SBSEF website. Log into your SBSEF "my account", and then on the left-hand side click on “Merchandise.” You will see we have limited sizes of our old jackets for sale, as well as limited sizes of our new jackets, as well as the team puffy jackets. We will set up delivery when the items arrive, usually late November, but some may be available sooner.
Team jackets are not required, but most of the Devos, Jfast, and U14 team members favor them. Questions? firstname.lastname@example.org
