December 16, 2021

Greetings SBSEF,

Boom! Winter took its time, but showed up big Tuesday night!  Despite the slow start in terms of snow, we are up and running and the skiing has been quite good.  With the new snow, we will see improving conditions and more terrain will begin to open up.

This is an exciting year with the promise of a complete season in terms of competitions, and the Olympic Winter Games in a couple of months.  Watch for FIS athlete and 2020-21 Alpine Skier of the Year Asa Miller in the tech events at the Olympics.

We currently have a group of SBSEF Snowboard and Adaptive athletes in Europe competing in events up to and including the World Cup, as well as Alumni athletes racing on the Men's and Women's Alpine World Cup.  For most of our athletes, the rest of December represents a core training block in preparation for the competition season.

This year is the 50th Anniversary for both Snowbird and SBSEF (our direct lineage).  It is a time to celebrate a rich history and tradition, but also a time to strengthen our foundation with an eye on the next 50 years.  Just as we have to adapt daily to the conditions in the mountains, so too must we adapt to a changing world and the needs of our athletes.   I am always interested to hear different perspectives on the things we are doing and ideas about the future.  This is YOUR team!

Big thank you to our resort partners, sponsors, donors, and of course to all our members.  Happy Holidays, see you on the hill!

Work Hard.  Dream Big.

SBSEF GIVES BACK: Warm Clothing Drive December 18-31

We are collecting donations of gently used, clean warm clothing to donate to the refugees relocating to Utah. If you have items in your closet to donate, bring it up to training during Holiday Camp. The coaches will put out bins daily to collect items.

You can also bring items to the SBSEF Office to donate!

Freeride Update:

Our team has been having a BLAST with the new snow! Thanks to the families that are updating availability in TeamSnap, this helps us plan our groups effectively. We have our Holiday Camp planned for December 27-31. Be sure to check TeamSnap to see when we will be at Alta and when we will be at Snowbird.

Holiday Camp Freeride Team Social:

The parent coordinators (Annie, Whitney & Kristy) are putting together a Pizza Social during lunch on Thursday, December 30th by the Bryce Astle Training Center (BATC) at Snowbird. More details will be sent out to Freeride groups and on your TeamSnap!

Woodward Wednesdays:

The team is heading OUTSIDE for next week's Wednesday. See the update from Davin, and be sure to reserve indoor time on the weeks the team is inside at Woodward. Questions? Ask!

Alpine Update:

Holiday camp days start December 20 and run through the 31st! Jfast, U14, U16, and FIS athletes are invited to training every day during camp (25 & 26 off) as part of your program. Check your team schedules in TeamSnap, and RSVP your availability accordingly. The sooner you update this, the better the coaches can plan!

Alpine Team Holiday HOT Breakfast:

Breakfast is BACK! Our early morning athletes will get a treat on December 28th, as the Board of Directors and Parent Coordinators are planning a hot breakfast at the BATC after speed training. This date may move if weather is coming in - but look forward to this. A sign-up list will be circulated for food donations.

Early Morning Parking:

Alpine parents, when you are dropping off for early morning training, arrive in time that your athlete can walk to training. DO NOT enter the parking lot with speed, as athletes are WALKING to training. Be aware. Snowbird Parking will allow parents to park temporarily against the snowbanks for drop-off (avoid handicap), then exit the lower Gad parking lot by 7:00 AM. DO NOT PARK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LOT FOR EVEN 2 MINUTES. If you do have a preferred parking pass, you must still park against the North snowbanks early in the morning, because the center parking lot signs are not set up that early.

Log into your SBSEF account, and click "Add-ons" to add hot lunch for the season. The menu is listed there for your viewing, and athletes will order each morning when they check in with their coach.

For those bringing home lunch - each morning the Coaches will put out the team lunch bags. Be sure your athlete puts their lunch in the team lunch bag. Please include an EMPTY water bottle the athletes can fill up at lunch. Don't include bottles of Gatorade, etc, that make the packs heavier than they need to be. Coaches will ski the bags to Rendevous for team lunch.
