Greetings SBSEF,

The season is certainly not going out like a lamb!  The snow may be late, but it is great to see the snowpack improving.
This season has been full of tremendous accomplishments for many SBSEF athletes, and I am very proud of the many individuals and achievements we saw this year.
This weekend is a special weekend.  It marks the end of the 2021-22 season for all intents and purposes.  It is also the day of our 50th Anniversary party!  Click here for more info:

Freeride Highlights:

SBSEF/AltaBird Freeride team competed in 17 competitions and over 300 starts. Ul2 NORAMs at Big SkyfeaturedAleksandrsVedejs and Canyon Whiteside. The IFSA NORAM Junior Freeride Championships at Big Sky featured: Owen Carlson, Fletcher Libre, Karl Verhaaren, Thomas McKean, Michael Wheatley, AJ McCleary, Ian Miller, and Boone Wheeler. Michael Wheatley won the 12-14 category.
The Alta/Snowbird Freeride Team finished the season with 16 National Comp top 5s, and 72 Regional Comp top 5s.

Freeride Junior World Championships @ Kappl, Austria: Ski Women: Campbell Bates 5th (alumna)
Ski Men: Owen Carlson 12th
Coach and Athlete Andrew Pollard also finished 5th on the Freeride World Tour in 2022!

Alpine Highlights:

SBSEF Alumni Jared Goldberg and Bella Wright both won US National Downhill titles this spring in Sugarloaf, Maine! Bella competed in her first Olympics in Beijing this year, and also had a career-best 10th place finish at the World Cup Downhill in Crans Montana, Switzerland.

Asa Miller competed for the Philippines in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Snowbird coach Will Gregorak was named Head Coach for the Philippines delegation.

Jeremy Mathers (Freshman) at the University of Utah, scored many personal best results while the team won its NCAA Division 1 Title for the third year in a row.

Meanwhile, the SBSEF Alpine Team had podium results at every age; Divisional, Regional and National.
Sofie Haggard got 2 top 10 results in her first 6 FIS starts. Townsend Mikell in his return from injury got two 3rd place results in GS and a win in slalom at Big Sky, Montana and went on to multiple top 15 finishes at Western Region Elite races.
Snowbird qualifies two athletes for UlS Nationals in Vail, Colorado. 3 athletes, Townsend Mikell, Max Holdaway, and Bjorn Karlen qualify for US Nationals in Sugarloaf. 17 athletes qualify for Western Region Junior Championships in Mission Ridge. Sofie Haggard placed 4th in GS (first for UlS's).

In the last race of the season at Snowbird, the prestigious Snow Cup, Soflie Haggard and Bea Martin each claim a win in the SL and GS respectively.

SBSEF Ul6's qualified more than half the team for the Tri Divisional Championships at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Talise Larsh was 2nd in the SG and won the GS.

SBSEF also qualified a quarter of its group for Western Region Ul6 Championships at Big Sky, MT. SJ Mikell won the first SG and Bea Martin was 12th. SJ claimed 3rd in the GS. SJ qualified for Ul6 Nationals in Sugarloaf, ME.
SBSEF Ul4's raced to 10 podiums in our qualifying series. Five Snowbird athletes qualified for Western Region Championships in Mammoth, CA

At the Tri-Divisional Championships in Jackson, WY, Sam Eden won the Ul4 GS and was 2nd in SL, giving her the Overall Title.
SBSEF )Fast had quite the season. SBSEF Ul2's they won every single South Series race. Patrick Meirowitz, Liz Eden, Cedric Sullivan, and Hannah Hijjiawi all had South Series wins. Even more impressive is the depth of the Snowbird team, the men took home 26/30 (87%) top five places during the season, with 7 different Snowbird boys earning hardware.

At Intermountain Championships, the Ul2 Snowbird boys Swept 3 of the 4 events. (Pat Meirowitz, Cedric Sullivan, Brody Eaton being in the top 3). Pat Meirowitz was also the 2022 !MD overall winner. On the girls side, Liz Eden, Kyla Horsley, and Hannah Hijjawi were top five finishers. Hannah Mcreynolds, Ax! Dain, Cedar Knight, Vonn Kunigenas, and Jack Webster all earned top 10 finishes at IMD Championships!

SBSEF Devos had a great winter! Devos held their own in-house events including The Cookie Cup, The Hot Cocoa Cup, and Good Vibes Only Free Ride Comp. Devos raced in YSL Finals at Snowbasin and brought home 19 medals and also competed in their first South Series race series at IMD Finals at Snowbird, and snagged 2 more podiums. Devos work hard and play just as hard! Throughout the year you could find us all over Snowbird. We saw a lot of great improvement in everyone's skiing this year!

Snowboard Highlights:

The SBSEF Snowboard Team competed worldwide in boardercross, Big Mountain Freeride, and adaptive Boardercross, and Banked Slalom. Including sending 3 athletes to the Paralympic Games in Beijing; Brenna Huckaby, Brittani Coury, and Tyler Burdick. Brenna Huckaby went on to win Gold in the Paralympic Banked Slalom!

The Boardercross group as a whole saw good improvement across the board with Felicia Turcotte ranked 5th in NorAm standings. Jace Guadagnoli & Colin Hutchins competed at a NorAm level. Paralympic medalist Brittani Coury battled back from a major surgery over the summer and was able to regain and improve upon her riding from the previous season.
